I'm going to vote for Obama again. Putting aside what the Republican candidates would do about gay issues, its a good, solid, decision. Admittedly Obama hasn't been as successful as I had hoped but he faced considerable opposition from Republicans. They ran up the deficits under George Bush by cutting taxes, spending more on Medicade and fighting two wars, all without raising taxes or cutting spending, they put the whole thing on the credit card. Then then they removed restrictions on banks, recinded the Glass-Steigle protections that led to housing bubble and economic meltdown. Somehow the Republicans have managed to change the discussion from Jobs to deficits but, fortunately, the Occupy Wal Street crowd has managed to change the discussion back to social justice and jobs.
Yes, its a little early to be too concerned about this but the list of candidates isn't going to change, its either Obama or one of the Republicans. Most of the Republican candidates can't be taken seriously, only Romney has a serious chance but he is promoting a conservative point of view but that will change when if he wins the nomination, then he will shift to the middle. His problem is that because of his frequently shifting position he doesn't seem to be able to get over 25% of the Republican vote so even if he gets the nomination his support is going to be tepid.
Obama's chances of getting re-elected are good, in part because of a slowly improving economy and partially because the Republican field is so weak.
The election is a year away but the Republican field is set and won't improve. Something unusual could happen, the bottom could drop out of the economy again, but that probably isn't going to happen. Think about it, which of the Republican candiates would you be confortable with as your President.
