My guess is that, yes, he will regret it later. Years ago I picked up a hitch-hiker (he was on his way to the Glastonbury festival) and noticed that he had lots of tattoos on his hands - the only bit of his flesh I could actually see whilst driving along - and, hoping this would lead to some fun, I asked about them and he was surprisingly frank. Said he had his first one done as a teenager simply because his father had said he would throw him out if ever he came home with one; one lead to another and so on until now, as he approached 30 years of age, with tattoos all over his body (and, yes, I did see but that's another story!) including the insides of his ears and his lips he was very repentant as he thought they gave a bad impression.
