I saw pictures on the news of Heathrow airport blamketed by snow. It looked so pretty.
Granted, it inconveniences a lot of people, and airport authorities should be prepared for the weather with de-icing equipment, etc. etc. But I also think people have got into the mindset where they plan their lives down to the minute, and when shit happens, throwing their schedule into chaos, they look for someone to blame. They forget, we have this thing called weather.
In the WW2 years (and no I am not THAT old, I did not live through them), there were advertisements saying "Is your journey really neessary?" I sometimes think we need an updated version of that for the 21st century - and if it IS necessary, is it vital that it take place right NOW, or will you still survive if it's delayed by a day or two or three?
People make plans to travel from one side of this ball of rock to the other, and be there by a certain date - Dec 25 for example. When you think about it, a lot of little things have to slot into place correctly for that to happen. Your journey from London to Melbourne (for example) involves a lot of people doing a lot of things that have to be done just right and at the right time. Nevertheless, the vast majority of such journeys go without at hitch. Your flight got cancelled because of snow? Just chill (sorry). We live on a planet half of which is cold this time of year. Weather happens. Snow happens.
