A New Zealand couple is considering taking legal action against fast food giant Burger King after allegedly being sold a burger soaked with human blood.
Rachel Hughley said she was stunned to spot what appeared to blood on the inside of her burger wrapper at the Burger King outlet in Auckland, the New Zealand Herald reports.
She then allegedly found blood soaked through her burger bun.
"The first thing I was thinking was Aids or hepatitis B," she told the newspaper.
"It's blood — I was about to throw up."
She and husband Tim complained immediately to the store manager, who told them the chef had suffered a paper-cut and had not noticed he was bleeding.
The restaurant sanitised the area, apologised to the pair and offered them free food vouchers.
But the Hughleys want to be compensated further and are considering seeking legal advice.
A spokeswoman for the chain said it was policy for chefs not to wear gloves.
But she said all staff wash their hands every hour, which is recorded on a form
