Ah. the notorious dicky seat. Also known as the mother in law seat. It's understandable that some people would want to put the mother in law in a seat in the trunk where they would not have to listen to her nagging. But the main use of this seat was for the children. Most parents say they love their children, how then could they allow them to travel in a seat that seems almost designed to cause death in all but the mildest of road accidents?

It is so easy to find a car that is like another, this topic could make a megathread only itself. For example NSU Prinz is a reduced copy of the Chevrolet Corvair that inspired numerous designers. The list is infinite.

I once drove a 1989 Lada that was a copy of a VW Golf II... except that it had a motor built by Porsche... and the power of a lawn mower. ^^

Only Alfa Romeo cars are inimitable!
No copy will ever be better than the original. Try it to believe!

1966 : the new Simca 1301-1501, stretched version of 1300-1500, don't deceive the specialist ...

The conventional mechanical of 1301/1501 come from the Aronde! (1951)

Hard journalistic comment

After 40 years of various migrations behind the wheel or on the dashboard, the gearshift find it place again between driver and front passenger. With obligatory front seatbelts, the central passenger is now banned from the family cars.

In 1969 appear Peugeot 304 and Renault 12. The Peugeotist find the traditional gearshift behind the wheel then Renault 12 has its on the floor like Renault 8 for example. Notice the old-fashioned rectangular dial of the 304.

On Simca 1301-1501 both locations are possible. Floor on S versions (sport image) or at the wheel on family versions.

Made from 1956 to 1976, ID/DS were the only Citroën with the gearshift behind the wheel.

Peugeot was the most faithful constructor to the gearshift at the wheel (204 then 304 estate until 1980)

504 estate had their gearshift at the wheel until the last in 1983!

All the Renault 16 had their gearshift at the wheel (1965-1980)
On the photo you can see the advantage of this control that allow the access to driver seat from the right or from the left.

HOTCHKISS
In thirties, their slogan was "the just middle" or "quiet at 100 (km/h)"
The just middle because, most of the time, the category of the Hotchkiss was just between Citroën and Hispano-Suiza. This constructor was famous for it numerous victories in rallyes.
