Well, there are religions without God (as creator, controller, judge, etc). For example Buddhism as it was originally taught in India; Taoism from China; and there must be others. One problem is that later the founders of these religions get made into god-like figures by later followers. And I agree, as you say, this usually is linked to power, wealth and corruption that is derived from being an "authority" or an "interpreter" on the teachings .

I think we can have religion without God, as to me, religion simply means a set of guidelines and principles to help us manage our lives & reltionships. Usually those guidelines & principles have an internal coherence & are often derived from a the ideas of people who have thought deeply about human moral issues and have tried to live by those ideas with beneficial results which we can see.

I would say I have a religion (which is to try not to deliberately or needlessly harm any living being) but God has no place in it. I'm neutral & open-minded on the issue - I don't believe, I don't disbelieve.

I want to believe, but I find the whole concept of God, heaven and hell so unbelievable. I won't go into why, but as much as I would love for there to be an afterlife, I don't think there is. I believe that when we die, there is nothing.. the same nothingness that was there before we existed.

While I don't believe in God, I do have some beliefs about the world, but if I shared them I'd be carted off to a mental hospital, so I'll keep them to myself..

Yes, for the most part. I do believe in God, but what the Divine really is continues to be a mystery for me. Faith is not fact, and I believe that true, healthy faith always includes some measure of doubt. If anyone had a definitive answer to the question of whether God exists, then what would be the point of believing?
