I did some more banner designs. These are reduced quality versions of the originals (the originals are 12"x2" with a DPI of 1200). I hope you enjoy.

Of the ones you posted, Josh, I like the one in your signature best. All of them are very good. The one in your signature block, though, has a graphic sense of transparency, cohesiveness and spectrum that - I think - conveys the feeling of the group/site.

@mrpiz: I feel your latest design seems to be too much? The colours and design overall seems to overwhelm?

The idea of spicing up the current one seems awesome. Taking a leaf out of google's book, we might always go back to our original banner but at particular times of the year we have special banners. (International events though, not country biased like Christmas and idk, any other days?)

@XMan101 said it wont be easy in practice, why not? I am not sure about the programming of the forum but the banner should constitute a file line in the scripting right, so substituting the file line should be ok?
And of course two sizes are necessary for the big banner and the small one with the datefree ad occupying more of the remaining space. So two substitution?

I was going to suggest a black and white color scheme/ logo. Or maybe a random logo loads each time the site is visited.
