ID 19, early models between Traction and DS

Presented at Paris Motorshow 1956

25 July 1957, the last Traction 11 familiale leaving Javel chain beside one of the first ID 19.

Notice the big price difference between the Traction and the ID 19 normale that is totally robbed and only available in black. Only 390 were sold.

Making some news with some oldies, what Citroën did for the 2 CV in 1970, I think it could do it thirteen years sooner for the Traction 11 B. It allowed to keep the faithful Traction customers frightened by the price of the basic ID 19. It was only a suggestion...

Jane Birkin, Serge Gainsbourg and the DS cabriolet

From the movie "Cannabis" (1970) directed by Serge Gainsbourg where Jane B is taking up driving.
Let's be objective, the DS is not the perfect car for learning to drive.

The personal DS of Henri Heuliez

Heuliez DS convertible project is refused by Citroën that has already the recent DS cabriolet made by Chapron at its catalog. It is a model 62 with the front ashtray fenders. Henri Heuliez has just fitted the new bumpers of the first models 63 new front face.

Autumn 65, late Panhard 24 after the merge with Citroën

Symbol photo : The new DS 21 is surround with people while the new 24 BA is alone.

After the stop of the 17, Citroën wanted a cheap 24 under 10.000F
Only the equipment is close from the one of the 2 CV !

ID 19 is barely at the price of the 24 BT

Too spartan, the 24 BA will be made during only one year (around 160 units).
It was a marketing failure. Only 24 B, 24 BT and 24 CT remain at the catalog for the last year 1967.

Without ventilation in the inhabit, the BA model has no grill under the front bumper.
A way to recognize one outside.

Pallas models

1965 - 1975 : DS 19, 20, 21, 23

1976 - 1985 : CX 2000, 2200, 2400, 2500, Diesel

1975 - 1985 : GS, GSA

Comfort awards 76 organized by the magazine L'Auto-Journal where GS and CX Pallas are especially noticed.

Cover of the catalog CX model 85 : Without rear spoiler, it could be a CX 20 TRE or a 25 Diesel Pallas.

No more Pallas models in the range CX serie 2 in 1986 but a new CX 22 TRS with a finition close from the old Pallas.
At this time, it was the GTI mania and the image of the Pallas, often associated to the soft hydropneumatic suspension, is too old. The automobile story is also a fashion story !

Bad weather for the butcher's CX in the movie "Poulet au vinaigre" with Jean Poiret (Claude Chabrol - 1985).

CX 2000 Super model 78 or 79 with double optical available in the accessories store at this age.

This naughty twink is about to poor out some sugar into the reservoir.

The break down, just while the driver is passing a truck.

Happily, we don't see really the accident.

Notice the black deflector on the bonnet, also in accessories, useful for the ventilation in summer.

At the garage Jean Poiret, the policeman, is beginning his investigation.

Hydropneumatic suspension is 70

Launched at the back of the 15-six for the 20 th anniversary of the Traction in May 1954.
"On the road...the comfort of the home" said the catalog at this age. It is true that the old back suspension with (too short) torsion bars was especially uncomfortable.

From the 15-six H to the C5.

Cumberford Martinique, a prestigious roadster neo-retro with some CX components.

1979-1982 : The designer Robert Cumberford creates the Martinique that remind us of the famous Bugatti 57S. The finition mahogany of the fenders give to the roadster a style Riva boats.

In front a six aligned cylinder BMW 3.2 liter - 197 HP. Automatic gearbox ZF.

Structure of molded light alliage.

Front and back axle are made with two CX front axles. The Martinique is a rear propulsion.
Suspension, steering, brakes and high pressure circuit come also from the CX.

Like the Bugatti 57S, the Martinique is too expensive for the constructor and for the eventual customer. Only two units were made.
