So Zizek has his birthday today...Since my birthday is tomorrow, maybe he's my Evil Twin?

Zizek can be a tad funny, but all of his Hegelianism, Lacanianism, and Leninism - no thanks!

Philosophy is - as Wittgenstein showed us - about DISsolving conceptual problems, NOT about SOLVING them. Philosophy is the Sulphuric Acid to our conceptual confusions...

In 1924 the Slovene poet, translator and editor Ivan Minatti was born in Slovenske Konjice, Slovenia. He is one of the best representatives of Slovene Intimism. He used nature as a source of deep symbols and metaphors for the man and his life. His work meant a radical break with the collectivist post-war poetry and the start of a personal poetry, making Minatti one of the breakthrough Slovene poets of the 20th century. Minatti won the Preseren Fund Award in 1964 for his poetry collection You Must Love Someone (Slovene: Nekoga moraš imeti rad).

March 23 is National Puppy Day, a special day dedicated to our four-legged, furry friends. It’s a special day to celebrate the magic and unconditional love that puppies bring to our lives. But more importantly, according to the National Puppy Day website, it’s a day to help save orphaned puppies across the globe and educate the public about the horrors of puppy mills, as well as further our mission for a nation of puppy-free pet stores.

I'm a bit confused : the scale most often used to measure earthquakes, isn't that the Richter scale? I don't think I've ever heard of the Mercalli scale...

Actually- the Richter Scale has been retired, it has been replaced with the Moment Magnitude Scale. Both Richter and Moment Magnitude scales measure how much shaking there is - effectively measuring the cause of the damage.

The Mercalli Scale takes the opposite view, and grades earthquakes by how much damage the shaking does.

In 2005, the very first YouTube video was uploaded to the web. The 19-second, heavily pixelated "Me at the zoo" video was uploaded by YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim, with the username "jawed" on April 23, 2005, at 8:27 p.m. Shot at the San Diego Zoo, the video features Karim talking about the elephants.
