Slovenians Rally to Condemn Attack on Charlie Hebdo

chhe.jpg

Rallies were held in Ljubljana and Maribor at midday Thursday as an expression of solidarity with France and condemnation of the attack on the Paris offices of the satirical paper Charlie Hebdo.

At first it seems like Steve Bell has crossed over into bad taste here. Think again.
We feel hate. The assasins want us to hate.
We feel fear. The assasins want us to be afraid.
We laugh? They don't want us to laugh, they don't understand humour.
So laugh at them and keep laughing at anyone who thinks they can kill satire.

Never as in this occasion you have to remember this great quote by Voltaire:

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"

This quote was meant for the quotes thread but it seems more apt for this thread now;

"If there were in the world today any large number of people who desired their own happiness more than they desired the unhappiness of others, we could have paradise in a few years."

Tragedies such as this are all too frequent. The collective sorrow and suffering we experience never grows dull. It's one of life's tools to make us appreciate our loved ones and our neighbors for the strength and courage those bonds provide in times of need.

France with all of her eccentricities and uniqueness is now and has always been one of America's closest allies. That will never change. WE stand with you my friends and we feel your suffering and sorrow as deeply as our own.

France is a bastion of freedom. France will never die as long as freedom lives.

Vive la France!

Thanks Snif - I was brought to tears by the demonstrations of people holding up pens and pencils all over the world in response to this animal attack. The pen IS mightier than the sword or some nutjobs bullets.

MANY MANY people in the US and ALL OVER THE WORLD are just like our brothers and sisters in France.

Je Suis Charlie!p:p

I'm very, very grateful to klimt for having started this important thread and to all other members who have made great contributions.

To me personally, the actions of the stupid coward murderers in Paris, means that legendary satirist/cartoonist Georges Wolinski is no more.

And that feels bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad...

It is a pity that they could not have been taken alive. A bullet in the brain is an instant painless death, it's not the punishment that fifty years in isolation would have been.
A fair public trial exposes to the world how fallacious the reasoning behind ideological murder.
No one has tried to emulate Anders Brevik, had he died in a 'blaze of glory' he would have seemed more heroic to those of a similarly disordered mind.
No criticism of the police intended, in a kill or be killed situation they did the best they could.

RIP Cabu, Wolinski, Charb and others. They joined Cavanna, Pr Choron, Reiser (and Sine, what is become ?) at the paradise of the drawers. All the legends of Hara Kiri and Charlie Hebdo are dead now. To be honest Charlie is dead in 1982 and the "new" Charlie is not really Charlie. But drawers are like everybody, they need to earn money for living.
What a massacre ! X_X
