Dear Sniffit, this is our space where we can be our selves. Part of being ourselves means never having to apologise for lusting after sexy soldiers or tasty policemen. Freedom of expression is what its all about.

Agree fully with dargelos!

I know the following will be slightly off topic, but here we go :
In many big european cities- such as Stockholm, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Berlin and London - from the late 19th century and at least until the late 1960s, young soldiers selling their juicy peckers for money was the most common type of male-to-male prostitution, Soldiers prostitution.

And I know that there was a big prostitution scandal in the early 20th century in the big naval base of Newport, USA, where sailors and soldiers were selling their goods.

So horny men oogeling other mens ass and crotch - same old story as usual, Miss Sophie;););)

Here is the cover of the next CHARLIE HEBDO that will be issued this wednesday.
A new draw of the Prophet holding a "Je suis Charlie" notice.
The title is :
Everything is forgiven

What makes me sad is that most American TV stations are CENSORING this cover.

In America, with the help of Christian fundamentalists, the terrorists have won. Censorship has been achieved!

The decision for neither the President nor Vice President to attend was too obvious not to be a calculated act and very disrespectful in my opinion. V.P. Biden should have and could have been there at the very least. President Obama should have been there.

Remember the Pope's funeral? Many of the living ex-Presidents attended that. Why wasn't 'W' or Clinton or Carter seen in the front row of the march through Paris?

Remember Nelson Mandela's funeral? President Obama himself attended that one and I remember the security concerns surrounding the soccer stadium. There was also an impostor sign language interpreter within arms reach of the President as was later revealed. Why wasn't the President in the front row of the Paris march?

As an American I feel shamed by the White House. This is something that will affect diplomatic relations for years to come and rightly so.

This snub of the tragedy in France must have had some covert reason. Maybe some threat of retaliation or something. At least I hope that was the reason.

It reminds me of the time President Obama bowed to the Saudin King.

Biden at the very least. The fact Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahuh (I'm sure I butchered that spelling) had the balls to show up and walk says something. Yes his security was behind him holding onto his arms but he did it. I'm sure the Secret Service told the president "no way!" but he's the President and this was an important moment in world history - the US was a no show....that IS embarassing. Even Eric Holder for crying out loud - HE WAS IN FRANCE doing interviews but had no time for this. I'm a Democrat but I'm ashamed as an American our government didn't represent.

Just heard in the news that this edition of CHARLIE HEBDO is forbidden at once in Turkey, because Mr. Erdogan feels that that is an insult to the prophet Mohammed.

So much for freedom of speech and free journalism in Islamic countries!!!!!
Perhaps someone will reconsider his action!

(I have had the intention to post here the new title of Charlie Hebdo - but I couldn't do that. Sorry)

Mr Erdogan is an insult to democracy, wasnt it comical to see him send an official to represent him on a march in support of freedom.
How offended should Muslims be by this magazine cover?
Suppose I was a Justin Beiber fan, I saved up to get a ticket for his show, as a music lover I was so looking forward to screaming throughout the performance. But woe! The announcer says "Sorry, Justin cant come tonight but dont worry, we found a tribute act to sing in his place" There would be a riot and I'd be joining in with it. The fans would be feeling cheated and insulted. To be given a poor substitute is worse than getting nothing at all.
Organised religion and pop concerts have much in common, they both depend on the mass manipulation of emotion to make something which is worthless feel like something which is awesome. Football works in a similar way. When the trick goes too far you get something like the Rolling Stones at Altamont.
Christians dont like third rate substitutes, the bible warns against false idols and graven images. If you are going to pray to god you better be sending all your prayers to god and not wasting them in the direction of pictures or statues.
Muslims are the same. If I show you a beautiful portrait of the prophet, a work of artistic skill, that image will stay with you when you go to prayer. That is wrong in Muslim eyes, you are meant to send all your thoughts heavenward, without any distraction from any object on this earth.
When Luz drew the magazine cover it was drawn from the point of view of an innocent child. It is not a beautiful work of art, its not meant to be, its as far removed from a convincing life like rendering of reality as you could get.
Any Muslim who is seeking offense will find it if they look hard enough, but the most serious objection, that an image is a pass-off of the real thing (like a tribute band in music) has been diminished.
It is the least offensive possible way to say what needs to be said, I'm afraid many people will deliberately fail to understand that.

I get that Americans may want to have seen their president in Paris, but that's not actually important, what matters is what the French wanted. Where ever Obama goes there is massive security, and he sucks all the oxygen out of the room. He steals the lime-light where ever he goes. If Obama goes anywhere, then it's all about him. That's not always appropriate.

If the French subtly asked through diplomatic channels that Obama not attend in person so the spotlight could be on the Europeans, then I think he did the right thing and Americans should be proud of him.

If on the other hand he was asked to come but didn't, then that would be a really poor show, and I could understand why Americans would be angry.

I don't know what the truth is, maybe others do?

Israel paper cuts Merkel from Paris march photo for modesty
Associated Press By IAN DEITCH January 14 2015

JERUSALEM (AP) — A small Jewish ultra-Orthodox newspaper in Israel is making waves internationally for removing German Chancellor Angela Merkel from a photo of this week's Paris march out of modesty.

World leaders had linked arms to march in Paris against terrorism after Islamic extremists killed 17 people. Merkel stood in the front row between French President Francois Hollande and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

But readers of the Hamevaser newspaper's Monday edition didn't know, as she had been digitally removed, leaving Abbas standing next to Hollande. Israeli media joked it was meant to bring Abbas closer to Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu, who was standing nearby.

Within the insular ultra-Orthodox community, pictures of women are rarely shown in newspapers and magazines due to modesty concerns.

In Jerusalem, ultra-Orthodox vandals frequently deface buses and billboards bearing advertising deemed immodest. Visitors to the religious neighborhood of Mea Shaarim are greeted with signs saying: "Please do not pass through our neighborhood in immodest clothes."

"A woman's exterior should not be seen and photographed or paraded in front of men," said Yosef Haim, a neighborhood resident. "I think it's a very positive thing."

The picture in Hamevaser cut out other women, like Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, though the newspaper clumsily left her dark glove on the sleeve of a marcher. The European Union's foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, was also cropped out.

Binyamin Lipkin, editor of Hamevaser, said the newspaper is a family publication that must be suitable for all audiences, including young children.

"The 8-year-old can't see what I don't want him to see," he told Israel's Channel 10 television station. "True, a picture of Angela Merkel should not ruin the child, but if I draw a line, I have to put it there from the bottom all the way to the top."

He also said he did not want to tarnish the memories of people killed in the attacks.

"Including a picture of a woman into something so sacred, as far as we are concerned, it can desecrate the memory of the martyrs and not the other way around," he said.

Shmuel Pappenhym, an ultra-Orthodox commentator and educator, said that while the community must preserve its values, the newspaper had gone too far.

"''The Hamevaser newspaper does a thing like this, tomorrow it appears in Germany, it appears all over Europe, the rest of the world. It mocks the Jewish Orthodox community. It makes us look narrow minded. It makes us look obtuse," he said.

This explanation from Jewish leaders is worse than thinking it was a political reason IMHO. Merkel and Hidalgo were removed because they are 'women'? That is certainly worse than thinking they were removed because of some political reason.

A house divided...

In a very special way these "journalists" are zealots! And zealots are not far away from terrorists. Every man or woman who will others impose their creed or their political persuasion by brute force will be to my opinion a terrorist and he or she should not be able to be a member of the human community.

So the translation is:

"A suicide bomber fucks himself in the middle of a crowd"

I only ask because Google translates it as this:

"a suicide bomber himself up in the middle of the crowd"

In other words (another way of saying it in American English words, lol) "The joke is on him" and I agree with that sentiment :)

B.

I never considered the possibility the French may have asked Obama not to attend and if that is the case then of course he did the right thing. Maybe the French government was okay with only the American Ambassador attending the 1,000,000+ unity (strength in numbers) march through Paris. I would think the leader of the most powerful nation on earth might be a welcome participant in such a show of unity.

I hope gb is correct about this and Obama did not embarrass America in such a distasteful way.

We've heard here in France that the reason why Obama did not come to Paris was because the US security thought that the organisation of this march was not secure for him !
