COCAINE BEAR (2023)

Well it ain't Paddington 3

It's a B movie - B for Bear; B for Bizzare; B for Bloody; B for Bonkers So if you are in the right mood for a (very) silly horror/comedy then this 95min "Scarface meets Yogi Bear" romp might do the trick, but you have to suspend your faculties and go with the flow and you just might find it bearable .... I think they missed a trick by not getting DiCaprio to do a cameo, maybe they tried but couldn't afford him?
.........................................

btw - Apologies to anyone expecting another clip/screenshot with one of the Cutie-Cole brothers, but they can't be in everything can they?

This afternoon and evening jest sat and watched Daniel Craig's Bond movies Skyfall and Spectre again.
Don't go much on them when I first watched them, But now as Bond movies go they have grown on me. Tomorrow I'm re-watching Daniel Craig's last Bond movie No Time To Die

DREAMLAND (2019)

I grabbed this as the imd.b site said "A teenager's adventures as a bounty hunter take an unexpected twist" but it's not about that. Set in 1930's Texas he comes across a female bank robber and runs off with her, so Bonnie & Clyde is the obvious reference. The 2 leads are fine - Margo Robbie and Finn Cole (yeah slimjim's watching a Cole brother again) and the open landscapes are filmed well enough but it's pretty bland and forgettable.

STARRED UP (2013)

Eric Love, 19, is locked up in prison. On his first day, he assaults another inmate and several guards. He's offered group therapy and his dad who is also an inmate at the same prison tries to talk sense into him. Can he be rehabilitated?

A tense and brutal prison drama. The main leads are all excellent, in particular an electrifying performance from Jack O'Connell as the moody troubled twink teen. Mmmmm Jack in a confined space, a prison cell, all tense and needing help de-stressing Oooh suits you Sir!

TRIPLE FRONTIER (2019)

Former Special Forces operatives reunite to plan a heist in a sparsely populated multi-border zone of South America. They failed to take down a drug lord when working for the government but now they undertake this dangerous mission for themselves instead of the country. But when events take an unexpected turn and threaten to spiral out of control their skills, loyalties and morals are pushed to the limit.

So this action/heist may have a good cast including Ben Alleck; Charlie Hunnam & Oscar Issac and several unexpected twists and turns but it ended up a bit dissappointing..... and not just because there was no cute twink in prison.

HOUSE OF BOYS (2009)

In 1984 a gay teen runs away to Amsterdam and finds a home and a lover at a gay-bar all-male cabaret, The House Of Boys.

The first half was not bad but when the plot encompasses AIDS it becomes very melodramatic (in the hospital the Doc is played by Stephen Fry and the nurse by Joanne Scanlon. This was released in cinemas so don't expect explicit gay sex

RED NOTICE (2021)

Take $200million, Ryan Reynolds; Dwayne Johnson & Gal Gadot then waste it on crap direction, a lame & stupid plot, an utterly awful crass script with some cringemaking one-liners and what you have is this totally tedious pile of poo. How does it end? No idea, I never got past halfway - and I think I did well to put up with it as far as I did.

 Well and this should have been our weekend-movie. I've read this and I will search for another one. After all these war-, crime and action-movies perhaps a comedy???

But yesterday evening it was again a war film.
DER STERN VON AFRIKA (The star of Africa) a German war film from 1957 about the life and death of Hans-Joachim Marseille, a flyer-ace of the German Luftwaffe in Africa who died in an air-crash in the age of 23 after more than 100 air victories.

He was a war-hero - a wasted young life! The film itself was in black-and-white which I think was much more hunting than it would have been in color.

A MOST WANTED MAN (2014)

When a brutally-tortured half-Chechen, half-Russian immigrant turns up in Hamburg's Islamic community laying claim to his father's ill-gotten fortune, both German and US security agencies take a close interest: as the clock ticks down and the stakes rise, the race is on to establish this most wanted man's true identity--oppressed victim or destruction-bent extremist? Based on John le Carré's novel it's a contemporary story of intrigue, love, rivalry, and politics. Tight direction maintains the tension right up to the very last moments... Cast includes Phillip Seymout Hoffman and William Dafoe

I haven't seen it yet but the new Woody Harrelson comedy CHAMPIONS is getting good reviews. Or why not pick an old classic like TOP SECRET( from the makers of AIRPLANE or THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL? or what about one of the "Cornetto Trilogy" - SHAUN OF THE DEAD: HOT FUZZ; THE WORLDS END?

THE LAST RIGHT (2021)

A fateful exchange on a flight from New York to Ireland has complicated consequences for Daniel Murphy (Michiel Huisman). He's left in charge of a corpse, the body of someone he never knew. He is persuaded to take on the challenge of getting an environmentally-friendly cardboard coffin from his family home in Clonakilty to Rathlin Island by his autistic younger brother Louis (Samuel Bottomley) and Mary (Niamh Algar), a flighty young mortician with her own agenda.

This is a quirky roadmovie, a heartwarming gentle comedic feel-good drama, some beautiful landscapes. A good cast, with Brian Cox and Colm Meaney.

DEJA VU (2006)

I've got this weird feeling that I have watched this before.......

Agents running a top-secret program, run by Val Kilmer brings ATF agent (Denzel Washington) onto the team to capture a terrorist (Jim Caviezel) responsible for a ferry bombing that left hundreds dead. Its amazing technology lets the team fold time four days backward and see his movements as he plans to kill a woman who could give him away. Doug realizes that the technology could allow him to do what law-enforcement officers dream of, go back in time to prevent the crime.

It's a Jerry Bruckhiemer/Tony Scott movie so you know what to expect and if you accept the silly premise and go with the flow then its a 2hr+ enjoyable action/ thriller.

I've got this weird feeling that I have watched this before.......

LITTLE BIG MAN (1970)

When a curious oral historian turns up to hear the life story of 121-year-old Jack Crabb (Dustin Hoffman), he can scarcely believe his ears. Crabb tells of having been rescued and raised by the Cheyenne, of working as a snake-oil salesman, knowing Wyatt Earp & Wild Bill Hickock, being a gunslinger, and a mule skinner under Gen. Custer. As if those weren't astonishing enough, he also claims to be the only white survivor of the infamous Battle of the Little Bighorn.....

2hr 20mins of historical fiction; a satire on the classic western. Just a shame that HDR/4K technology wasn't around when the made it. Also stars Faye Dunnaway; Chief Dan George; Richard Mulligan and Martin Balsam

SHERLOCK HOLMES (2009)

When a string of brutal murders terrorizes London, it doesn't take long for legendary detective Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his crime-solving partner, Dr. Watson (Jude Law), to find the killer, Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong). A devotee of the dark arts, Blackwood has a bigger scheme in mind, and his execution plays right into his plans. The game is afoot when Blackwood seems to rise from the grave....

It's a Guy Richie movie, so a different kind of Sherlock than we are used too - still a fun filled 2hrs though
