THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT (2004) .... no trailer due to age of actors

As a child, Evan Treborn was afflicted with blackouts where he would be in one place one minute and then another the next, remembering absolutely nothing in-between. Now all grown up and in college, he decides to read from an old journal he wrote to remember stuff that might have happened in the in-between, and suddenly finds himself back at a certain point in his life. He realizes that those blackouts he had were actually empty spaces of time he had to fill up later in life. Attempting to use this ability to undo unpleasant past events, Evan starts to find that every time he goes back and tries to fix things, he ends up making everything worse. How can he prevent more tragedies from happening and save the one girl he ever loved, Kayleigh (Imdb)

Ashton Kutcher & Amy Smart star in this time-flipping thriller. It has a few plot holes but is worth a watch.

We are not fans of horror movies. But than I've read the many good reviews and I thought : give it a try.

Title of this crap: THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE KILLER a film from 2022 from Australia.

Alone the label Horror-Film for this crude concoction is an insult for every horror movies!

ONE DAY AS A LION (2023)

Jackie Powers (Scott Caan) is a nice guy but a lousy hit man, and when he's sent to take out a crafty debtor (J.K. Simmons), Jackie only pisses him off. Fleeing the scene, Jackie takes bored waitress Lola as a hostage. When Jackie reveals he needs money to get his son out of jail, Lola cooks up a scheme for them to get cash from her dying mother (Virginia Madsen). Meanwhile, a thug sent to kill him is sleeping with Jackie's ex. This crime-comedy is a witty homage to Tarantino and the Coen brothers (Imdb)

A fairly forgetable movie, even if it does star J.K.Simmons & Frank Grillo, and having them on the cast list was the reason I decided to take a look. As to the comments about Tarantino & Coen Bros....... homage? well maybe.........as good as? sadly no.

RUN WITH THE HUNTED (2019)

Oscar, a young boy, defends his best friend, Loux, and kills her abusive father in the process, forcing him to run away from his rural hometown. His innocence slips away as he is introduced to love, crime and corruption. 15 years later, he has all but forgotten his past and become the leader of a band of lost children. When Loux moves to the same city in search of a better life, she finds a job with a curmudgeonly private investigator. Stumbling upon Oscar's antiquated missing child report, Loux takes it upon herself to find the boy who saved her life. (Imdb)

Stars Ron Pearlman; Michael Pitt and William Forsythe but they cannot save it. It's terrible, avoid.

Pow, right in the stomach - a film from 2022 (England) THE SON

It felt personal somehow, when thinking of myself in all their places. It is so hard and devastating. I sometimes see that look in my father's eyes, and sometimes in my mother's or my sister's, sometimes I have these mixed feelings and the deep conviction that I don't desire to keep on living, but I don't know how anyone else can survive this, anyone else that's similar to Nicholas. Such a real and painful movie. I don't know why it touched me so deep, and why it made me cry so hard, it felt too personal. And it makes you think, what can anyone do really? What can we do, and is it anyone's fault?

This text has written a reviewer on IMDb and I have nothing more to say. This was all so sad and so cruel what some families have to endure. I've cried like a little child. Hugh Jackman in one of his very best parts and the young Zen McGrath as well was overwhelming. Really, really a MUST SEE --- but please remember it is not a "Saturday-evening-entertainment-film".

THE SON (2022)

Yes, powerful stuff. A very strong storyline and excellently portrayed by the 4 main leads. I took your advice and watched it on a Friday....... as you said it ain't a movie for a "beer & pizza Saturday night"

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Vol. 3 (2023)

Our beloved band of misfit heroes are back for one last escapade. Peter Quill must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them......

The 150mins fly by with the usual GOTG blend of wisecracking and action. It's a slightly overstuffed storyline but has a running time that allows it to fit it all in. It has some darker moments than the previous two and in this one we get to see Rockets backstory and it works well as a swansong to the series. I think they missed one gag though - the dog should have seen a squirrel, lol

GALVESTON (2018)

A noirish crime thriller, Galveston centers on New Orleans hitman Roy Cady, whose mobster boss has decided to remove him from the business - and the world- because he fears Roy might try to get even with him for stealing his woman. Roy escapes the ambush set up for him and goes on the run with incriminating business records and rescued teenage hooker Raquel "Rocky" Arceneaux. (Imdb)

There is a Glen Campbell song "Galveston" it only lasts about 3mins...... I would listen to that instead of wasting 90mins watching this.

ONE OF THESE DAYS (2020)

In a small southern town in Texas twenty down-on-their-luck folk entered a raffle and have been picked to compete for a brand new pick-up truck, a prize that might finally tip the scales of life in their favor. The annual "Hands On" contest puts the vehicle literally within their reach – the winning contestant is the last one standing with their hands held firmly on the truck apart from the official rest & toilet breaks. Armed only with their dreams and determination, the participants forgo basic human needs to stand around the pickup truck for days to wear down their fellow competitors.... who will have the endurance to see it through to the end?

I grabbed a copy as it stars Joe Cole (enough reason for me) and knew little about it before I watched it. The interplay between the competitors is interesting and the whole film is not spent just looking at them touching a truck. It could be an entertaining watch - or you could find it a bit of an endurance to see it through to the end, depending whether you get drawn into it

First we tried I'M NOT GAY - A MUSICAL
well, after 20 minutes my man looked at me and said only one word "HONESTLY?" And that was it. And let me tell you: it is perhaps the second or third film in my life which I stopped long before the end. But for both of us this crap was obnoxious! I know: tastes differ. On IMDb this film from 2023 has got 6,5 points from 10. I would give -10!

So the second: THE WOMAN KING (2022)

The Woman King is the remarkable story of the Agojie, the all-female unit of warriors who protected the African Kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s with skills and a fierceness unlike anything the world has ever seen. Inspired by true events, The Woman King follows the emotionally epic journey of General Nanisca (Oscar®-winner Viola Davis) as she trains the next generation of recruits and readies them for battle against an enemy determined to destroy their way of life. Some things are worth fighting for. (IMDb)

This film said it is based on true events. Well it is "based" something may have been happend as shown something not. But nevertheless it was a great movie which held us captured for more than two hours (135 minutes). Give it a try!

Thanks for this - I had heard good things about this movie but wasn't sure if it was one for me, I will try and track it down and add it to an already very full movie folder.
...........................

RYE LANE (2023)

This is a rom-com which is not somthing I usually watch but again I'd heard good things about it... and they all turned out to be correct.

Yas (Vivian Oparah) and Dom (David Jonsson), two twenty-somethings both reeling from bad break-ups, meet for the first time and connect over the course of an eventful day in London, helping each other deal with their nightmare exes, and potentially restoring their faith in romance.....

It's a really good film, funny & uplifting, refreshing, thoroughly charming with a very witty and funny script (there is a :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:nice piss-take to Love Actually, the "other" sth london rom-com) As you can see in the short clip the direction/camerawork is fresh as is the editing style with flashbacks and asides. It uses the locations really well, showcasing some vibrant parts of Brixton & Peckham in Sth London. The sountrack fits perfectly with the movies' vibe too. And last but not least the two leads are really good, both had some stuff on TV but this is their film debut and they both stormed it. It is also the first time directing for Raine Allen-Miller

Recommended!

COCOON (1985)

Oscar-winning fantasy in which the residents of a Florida rest home get a new lease of life when they stumble across an alien "fountain of youth" in a disused holiday home. Unbeknown to them, aliens have been using the swimming pool in the house to store their cocooned brethren, giving the waters a powerful, rejuvenating quality. (Imdb)

Showing it's age a little in these days of enhanched cgi and could have done with maybe 15/20 mins being edited out but it's a pleasant, gentle, life affirming movie.

SPECIAL DELIVERY (2022)

This Korean movie was available on the free streaming service of Channel 4 here in the UK so I thought I'd give it a go. It seems it can't decide whether it wants to be a Korean version of Baby Driver or The Fast & Furious so tries to be both. Only in this one the driver is a girl and presumably there was lots of violence later on. I say presumably 'cos I switched off after about 35 mins as I just got bored with it. So in a way that makes it more like a Fast & Furious copy!

RED STONE (2021)

A dangerous hitman (Neal McDonough) is tasked with hunting down a teenager who witnessed the murder of his older brother at the hands of a ruthless Southern crime lord (Michael Cudlitz). The hired gun must track down the boy before either the rival henchmen or the F.B.I. find him first. As the hours tick down, the hitman begins to question his deadly ways and must choose which side he belongs to.(Imdb)

So the goons chase the kid, the kid escapes - so the goons chase the kid some more, the kid escapes - and so the goons chase him again, the kid escapes and I hit the OFF button............ it's rubbish

GIGI AND NATE (2022)

A young man's life is turned upside down becoming quadriplegic. Moving forward seems near impossible until he meets his unlikely service animal, Gigi - a curious and intelligent capuchin monkey. (IMDb)

A reviewer on IMDb wrote: Uplifting Movie With An Encouraging Message And Elicits A Range Of Emotions!
And that is more than true, I couldn't say it better. A great little film and very , no VERY recommended movie, and very emotional. And, Slimjim, I'm 100% sure that you will watch this film until the last line of the closing credits have gone! Trust me!

SAND CASTLE (2017)

The story follows a young soldier, and his introduction into the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Based on true events, it bears witness to the destruction and horrors of war. An inexperienced American private discovers the true cost of war when his unit is sent on a dangerous mission to repair a water pumping station in a rural Iraqi village. (Imdb)

So it's a fairly typical modern war movie with the message "War is hell" but this one stars Nicholas "he looks real cute in army fatigues (and even better out of them)" Hoult... and maybe (or do I mean obviously) this was a main reason for me grabbing a copy (c'mon I'm not the only Nick Hoult fan am I???) Sadly no "Nicky is naked" or "Nicky in his snug fitting boxer briefs" moments in this movie 😥😥

I grabbed a copy of GIGI & NATE today, and yesterday a copy of THE WOMAN KING. Thanks for the recommendations, I will let you know my thoughts ... Have you watched the utterly charming RYE LANE yet??
