THE FLASH (2023)

Started off badly - at just 5 mins in I was thinking of possibly bailing out, the same at about 12mins in. By 35 mins. it was "enough of this crap" and switched off; bad CGI; awful script, Ezra Miller VERY annoying.......... should I have stuck with it? or did I save 2 hours?

INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY (2023)

I know many audiences and critics loved it but I thougt it could have had around 35 mins cut (maybe more), the interminable car chases & fight scenes went on too long for me and Phoebe Waller-Bridge was irritating (not as irritating as Ezra Miller in The Flash, I mean we are not talking Jar Jar Binks here; no-one is THAT fucking annoying). My main problem is that the plot was all over the place. On a positive note it means 2.4Gb freed up on the usb for something else!

THE EQUALIZER (2014)

A man who believes he has put his mysterious past behind him cannot stand idly by when he meets a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters Imdb

Feeling tired and not wanting dense plot or dialogue and with No3 due to land it seemed that a re-watch of this Denzil Washington escapist revenge pic was in order.

NAKED GUN 2.5

I was again too tired for anything too heavy going and this was on a free streaming service... sadly it is so far along the Airplane & Naked Gun franchise and it felt as if most of the gags were ones that had been rejected from the earlier movies but was all they had left and most of them resulted in groans rather than laughs

BAD EDUCATION (2019)

The beloved superintendent of New York's Roslyn school district and his staff, friends and relatives become the prime suspects in the unfolding of the single largest public school embezzlement scandal in American history (Imdb)

This Hugh Jackman; Allison Janney movie is based on real events but sadly I thought the direction was poor. Not much happens for the first 30 mins or so then it gets interesting and the ending fizzled out a bit. Jackman & Janney are both great but for me it's not enough to save the movie.

This time a Hong-Kong film from 1987 PRISON ON FIRE

An explosive crime-drama that caused a sensation upon its release. Audiences gasped for breath from the bloodshed and violence, yet were deeply moved by the fraternal bond between the two leading characters. Chow Yun-Fat and Tony Leung are riveting as the inmates who get involved with the intracacies of the prision system. (IMDb)

A real classic and very moving film. Now we want to watch part 2 from 1991

PRIVATE PEACEFUL (2012)

During World War I two brothers fall in love with the same woman as they contend with the pressures of family and war.

If I start by saying that the 2 brothers (as adults) are played by George MacKay and Jack O'Connell then it will come as no surprise why I grabbed a copy. Sadly even with these 2 as the leads and also starring Richard Griffiths; Maxine Peake & Frances De La Tour it ends up being a bit dull. It's a low-budget production (the quoted budget on Imdb is "estimated £3000" - if that is accurate most of those behind & infront of the camera must have done it for no fee?) The first hour is pretty much all set in the Uk countryside showing the boys growing up and moves to the trenches for the final 30/35mins.

It's a pity that the only film so far where George MacKay & Jack O'Connell appear in bed together is set in 1914 with them in pajamas and not 2020 with them only wearing tight fitting calvin boxer-briefs

EYE ON JULIET (2017)

The story of an unlikely encounter between Gordon, a hexapod operator, and Ayusha, a young woman from the Middle East. Gordon, guardian of a pipeline in this desert region, becomes fascinated by Ayusha, while piloting his robotic spider from the other side of the world, in America. Ayusha is promised to an older man she doesn't love. Despite the distance, their mutual fear and their imperfect interaction, he will do everything in his power to help her escape her fate

Well Joe Cole stars, hence my interest...... and it's OK, the 2 leads are OK, the cinematography is OK, the soundtrack is OK, the plot is OK - with an interesting take on a love story by use of a drone.

THE EQUALIZER 3

I think there is no need to copy the text from IMDb - everyone will know it! Much fun with a great Denzel Washington.
And yes: revenge can give you satisfaction! 😉 Very recommended!

THE FENCE (2022) no Ytube trailer due to actor age.

Motorbikes, fast cars, punch-ups and 80's music. Set on the streets of 1980s Bristol (UK), this retro flick follows a council estate kid out to settle the score with local thieves. Imdb

This was originaly a 20min short that got the backing & funding to turn it into a feature length version. It is the writer/directors debut and many of the cast are newcomers too although it does have such as Sally Phillips and Eugene Simon. I knew nothing about this but spotted it on the All4 streaming service here in UK and thought I'd give it a go. It's not bad, funny in places and a soundtrack including The Selector; Adam & The Ants; Madness; Motorhead and Kim Wilde.

THE NEW GUARD (2022)... no trailer as too many plot spoilers

A covert team of mercenaries who have a very special set of skils/gifts is suddenly exposed and must now fight to keep their identity a secret just as an unexpected new member is discovered.

I happened on this as it popped up on the Imbd site. Not sure which movie I was checking out but this came up as one of the "More Like This" suggestions. I started watching this and it was fine - the standard shooty/kicky/hitty/action movie but at around 15mins in it was " Oh, Okay this just got interesting" and yeah I enjoyed it, Charlize Theron & Chiwetel Ejiofor star in this high octane/action/thriller but it also poses questions about morality & mortality. The ending is a dead give away for a "set up for a sequel" and after watching this I googled it and guess what - there is an Old Guard 2 on it's way. It's a perfectly fine popcorn action movie.

A film from 2022: AS GOOD AS DEAD

Bryant (Michael Jai White), a man with a mysterious past moves to a small Mexican border-town to start over and live the simple life. While there, he reluctantly befriends a troubled local teen who has recently lost his mother and is being recruited by the local street gang. Bryant keeps the boy on the straight and narrow by introducing him to martial arts and taking on the role of mentor, teacher and father-figure. As the story unfolds we learn that Bryant is much more than a man who moved to Mexico to live the simple life. Bryant is running from a complex, violent past that he believes he left behind. As his past catches up with him, he is forced into a life and death struggle to clear his name, save the boy and get back all that he left behind. (IMDb)

A straight forward going thriller with martial arts. A story like 1000 others - but nonetheless very enjoyable mostly because of the fighting scenes.

THE MAN FROM NOWHERE (2010).... no Ytube trailer due to actor age

A quiet pawnshop keeper with a violent past takes on a drug-and-organ trafficking ring in hope of saving the child who is his only friend. Imdb

This Korean revenge movie starts off a little slow but at around 30 mins it ramps up and so does the violence and fake blood. It is also a little melodramatic at times, surprisingly. Several major fight scenes all very well coreographed and well filmed.

Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny - by far the worst movie of any of the Indiana Jones movies. I can see why it flopped so badly at the cinema.
As Variety recently noted, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny could lose Lucasfilm and Disney close to $100 million based on its theatrical run.

MOB LAND (2023)

Deep in the heart of Dixie, in a small town struggling with the ravages of addiction, a local sheriff (John Travolta) tries to maintain the peace when desperate family man Shelby (Shiloh Fernandez) robs a pill mill with his reckless brother-in-law, Trey (Kevin Dillon). But the supposedly easy score takes a violent turn, alerting the New Orleans mafia's revenge-seeking enforcer (Stephen Dorff), who threatens Shelby's wife (Ashley Benson) and daughter. With its unpredictable twists and turns, Mob Land is a heart-pounding, action thriller. Imdb

With its unpredictable twists and turns, Mob Land is a heart-pounding, action thriller. - Oh no it isn't, a badly paced formulaic "local small-time crooks fall foul of The Mob" movie is what it is. The big names in the cast cannot save it. I yawned a bit before turning it off well before the full 1hr 50mins.

THE SIEGE OF JADOTVILLE (2016)... The trailers give too much away so here's just a short teaser scene.

In 1961, the UN sends an Irish peacekeeper troop commanded by Commandant Pat Quinlan to Katanga, in Congo, to protect the inhabitants of the mining town of Jadotville in the beginning of a civil war. Meanwhile the UN advisor Dr. Conor Cruise O'Brien launches a military attack named Operation Morthor against the French and Belgian mercenaries. Soon there is a reprisal from the mercenaries and Quinlan and his men are left under siege by a huge number of Katangese and mercenary troops. Imdb

I knew nothing about these events but from what I can gather the film follows pretty closely to what actually happened. I only came across it as the cast includes Fionn O'Shea (from Handsome Devil). Also in the cast is Mark Strong; Mikael Persbrandt & Jamie Dornan. The young actor who plays P.J. (Conor Quinlan) is the real-life grandson of the Commandant Pat Quinlan. I enjoyed it, the pacing was pretty good and the combat scenes were well done - gripping at times.

Well worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

GEOSTORM (2017)

When catastrophic climate change endangers Earth's very survival, world governments unite and create the Dutch Boy Program: a worldwide net of satellites surrounding the planet, that are armed with geoengineering technologies designed to stave off the natural disasters. After three years of successful protection, something starts to go wrong. Two estranged brothers are tasked with solving the program's malfunction before a worldwide Geostorm can engulf the planet. (Imdb)

It's Gerard Butler in a popcorn disaster movie, so far so good - if you want a popcorn disaster movie Gerard is the very man for the job! From what I can find it cost $130m to make, okay so lots were spent on the special effects and star salaries for the likes of Butler as well as Ed Harris; Andy Garcia; & Abby Cornish but couldn't they have budgeted a few more $$ to spend on the script rather than take the worst bits from every other disater movie?? Some of the dialogue is just so feckin' corny you almost want to throw up. I don't think anyone said "I'm getting too old for this shit" but maybe I missed it

AMERICAN SICARO (2021)

American gangster Erik Vasquez is scheming to become the top dog in the Mexican underworld, only to find himself making enemies out of both the powerful cartels and his own allies Imdb

Danny Trejo is in this. Danny Trejo is an actor, not the worlds best actor but an actor. There were many other people moving around in front of the camera and some were talking. None of these had any acting skills whatsoever, especially the playing the lead character who is just awful. Not that it matters 'cos the script was truely dire, the camerawork was crap too. Avoid this rubbish - I'd rather have a repeat of the recent CyroAblation operation I had on my heart than sit through this utter garbage

KING OF KILLERS (2023)

Garan is a part of a group of international hitmen who are contracted to take out the most dangerous killer in the world, only to find out that they're the ones being hunted. Imdb

Utter shite - Turns out it's with Frank Grillo & Stephen Dorff not starring, and the remaining cast are terrible, the plot is wafer thin and when a particular plot spoiler was revealed at 33mins I'd had enough and hit the OFF button.

I have been going through the movies I have on the USB store and filtering, trying to save the "premier" movies and watch the 3rd and 4th division ones so that I can delete them and free up more space... with these last three my plan seems to be working.
