US fired depleted uranium at civilian areas in 2003 Iraq war, report finds
Anon URL

"US forces fired depleted uranium (DU) weapons at civilian areas and troops in Iraq in breach of official advice meant to prevent unnecessary suffering in conflicts, a report has found."

"Coordinates revealing where US jets and tanks fired nearly 10,000 DU rounds in Iraq during the war in 2003 have been obtained by the Dutch peace group Pax. "

"many of the DU rounds were fired in or near populated areas of Iraq"

"PAX estimates that there are more than 300 sites in Iraq contaminated by DU"

"The Dutch MoD ... released the data to PAX in response to a request under freedom of information law. The release of the information was a "useful first step towards greater transparency", said PAX, but the firing coordinates for most DU rounds remain unknown."

"More than 300,000 DU rounds are estimated to have been fired during the 2003 Iraq war, the vast majority by US forces."

And this is just to scratch the surface of what happened. The health consequences for the Iraqi people have been and continue to be horrific. In Fallujah the birth deformities are literally as from a horror.

America is the only country to have proven it's willingness to use nuclear weapons against a foe.

That is the only thing that keeps Russia, China and the Islamic jihads like Al Qaida, the Taliban and the newcomer ISIS in check.

If it weren't for America's nuclear arsenal and track record of using it Russia would have taken Europe in the 50s, China would have taken S.E. Asia, Japan, the Phillipines and probably Australia and the Pacific Islands and the Islamic jihads would be running amok in whatever was left after Russia and China were through.

If you think the legacy of DU ammunition in Iraq was bad wait until you get a load of the aftermath of the final battle for world dominance.

The Islamic jihads all believe they are going to heaven where their rich rewards are waiting for them ... too bad there is no such place as heaven.

Indeed, I bet if it weren't for that nuclear arsenal, the Al Qaida would already have crashed a plane into an american skyscraper long ago. Or maybe even two.

Nice try sniffit, but the use of depleted-uranium in Iraq was morally reprehensible. Period. End off.

You might as well turn around and say "I know I killed & multilated some kids in the neighbouring village, but I sent a clear message to them about just how nasty the men in this village are, so everyone can feel safe now."

A lot of US citizens, and prominent American voices have bravely condemned US war-crimes. If you ever count yourself among them, then you will have something to feel truly positive about.

Well, I'm not proud of everything America has done. I'm just stating the fact America did it. Who doubts America will do it again?

Since you know the nation I call home is America, skyward, tell me ... where do you live?

Please :)

This afternoon Hungarian police fired tear gas and water cannon at protesting migrants and refugees. Police defended their actions and said the crowd became aggressive and threw stones and sticks.
Hundreds of riot police, supported by special anti-terrorist units with armoured vehicles and water cannon, advanced towards the crowd at the Roszke border crossing

Migrants have overrun police at a flashpoint border crossing and entered the country

Hungarian police detained 29 migrants during border clashes today, including one "terrorist", the prime minister's security chief has stated.

Refugees/migrants have also reached Croatia. It seems Croatia plans to assist then to move through to Slovenia?

Another thought struck me about those who try to defend, however tacitly, the US firing depleted uranium. Imagine someone trying to defend themselves at a war crimes tribunal... it is put to them that they oversaw the firing of 300,000 depleted uranium rounds. They are show pictures of the horrible mutations, the pain and misery they have caused... they stand with a smirk to answer and say "sure I oversaw the firing of 300,000 rounds! But if I didn't then someone else might have fired 350,000 rounds!" Some years pass and another war-criminal admits to 350,000 rounds. And in his defense he says "sure I oversaw the firing of 350,000 rounds! But if I didn't then someone else might have fired 400,000 rounds!"

It's an absurd defense. grievous war crimes should never ever be defended. If you do wrong the least you can do is own up and admit it. Interestingly at such tribunals it is the criminals who refuse to admit guilt, or who are even proud of what they did, that evoke the most disgust.

Are you saying that Donald Trump is in favour of using 'tactical' nukes? Ie the ones that in theory can kill populations but leave the infrastructure intact. Even if that is achieved, the US would officially be worse than ISIS.
The coming war with ISIS will not be like Vietnam or Iraq it will be like the war with the Japanese and the Germans. The only way to stop religious fanatics is to wipe them out.
This is the type of war that the Ohio class subs were meant for.
Someone will have to protect the Israelis, the Kurds and the Europeans. It will be much easier and cheaper to protect Europe now then after they allow themselves to become a part of the caliphate.

With the exception of Eastern Europe and England.
I admire Hungary who had the balls to not care about what the crybabies of the world thought of them, and tried to protect their borders.

I don't find that comment amusing and least of all worthy of a rofl but if it amuses you that's fine with me.

This is totally off topic but the 9/11 attacks could not have been successful without help, guidance and coordination from bureaucrats and politicians here. It required inside help. While the President was conveniently absent from the White House (target of Flight 93 that was aborted by American civilian passengers on that plane) and reading 'My Pet Goat' to schoolchildren in Florida even after he was told about the first tower and didn't move until the second tower was hit. Don't get me started on that ...

So our perspectives may differ on 9/11.

I know what you are trying to say but I think you missed my point. I said 'if you thought using DU ammo in Iraq was bad wait until after a full on nuclear strike.

I'm in no hurry to have a front row seat at the end of the world. I hope it never happens. I believe we should be aware of the danger of taking in hundreds of thousands or millions of refugees.

That was my point. :)

A debate has erupted in Germany over whether Muslim students should be exempted from mandatory visits to former concentration camps as part of Holocaust education programs.

The dispute centers on a proposal that would require students in all secondary schools in the southern state of Bavaria to visit Holocaust memorials as part of the school curriculum.

Such visits are already compulsory for students who attend the Gymnasium (a type of secondary school with a strong emphasis on academic learning), and the proposal would extend that requirement to eighth- and ninth-grade students in all other types of secondary schools, including special-needs schools.

The proposal, sponsored by a political party called the Free Voters (Freie Wähler), calls for the official educational curriculum to be amended to make it mandatory for students to visit the Bavarian concentration camp memorials in Dachau und Flossenbürg and the Deutsch-Deutsches Museum in Mödlareuth.

The stated objective is that all students in Bavaria personally visit a Holocaust memorial at least once during their schooling, in the hope that they will obtain a deeper understanding of the Nazi period.

The proposal is being opposed by the governing Christian Social Union, the Bavarian partner of Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union. In a recent parliamentary debate on the issue, CSU parliamentarian Klaus Steiner explained:
"Especially in secondary schools we have immigrants and the children of asylum seekers. Among them are many children from Muslim families who have no connection to our past and who will need much more time before they can identify with our history. We need to be careful about how we address this issue with these children."
The Los Angeles-based Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Jewish human rights group, was even more direct. In a letter to German Federal Education Minister Johanna Wanka, the Center's director for international relations, Shimon Samuels, wrote:

"To hear such language from a mainstream German politician reeks, at best, as Holocaust denial and, far worse, a German endorsement for such radical Islamist and Iranian intents, summed up as, 'the Holocaust is a lie, let's make it a reality.'"

Samuels contrasted the CSU's stance in Bavaria with the federal government's €20 million ($22.5 million), five-year investment plan to create Centers of Islamic Theology at four major German universities: Münster/Osnabrück, Tübingen, Frankfurt/Giessen and Nürnberg-Erlangen in Bavaria.
In his letter, Samuels called out the apparent hypocrisy. He wrote:

"At a time of increasingly rampant anti-Semitism and even anti-Semitic terrorism across Europe, the Steiner Bavarian plan, together with your generous Federal Islamic education program seems a recipe for Jihadism, ISIS recruitment and incitement to Jew-hatred, to be inevitably followed by attacks on other traditional Nazi victims: Roma, gays, women and disabled.

"By suppressing the concentration camp visit for young Muslims, Germany may evoke for some, iconized memories of the 1930's Fuhrer-Mufti alliance as a paradigm for contemporary Islamism."

Samuels was referring to the Palestinian Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini, who met Adolf Hitler and other Nazi leaders in Germany in 1941. He was soliciting the support of the Axis powers to eliminate all of the Jews in the Middle East.

Georg Rosenthal, a Social Democratic MP and former mayor of Würzburg, believes that official commemorations of the liberation of concentration camps or the end of World War II have become "senseless rituals" that many young Germans do not relate to. "We need a remembrance culture for the third generation," Rosenthal said, referring to young people who have no living memory of the Holocaust. "Visiting the crime scenes is essential for all students. It is especially important for young immigrants to understand why they need to assume responsibility for German history."
Hate crimes against Gays and Jews are rising in Germany I wonder what is going on?

It never ceases to amaze me how everybody always demands that America steps in to fight what ever evil is the flavor of the month, and then bitches about us being too brutal in our tactics.

Personally, if I were president, I'd say FUCK YOU! Solve your own problems to the rest of the world. and close our borders...

Authorities fear chaos as thousands of refugees enter Croatia

More than 5,500 refugees entered Croatia on Wednesday and Thursday morning, and many more are expected throughout the day, Croatian national TV station HRT reported.

Croatia's foreign affairs minister Vesna Pusić warned Wednesday that the country is not equipped to handle a huge wave of refugees.

Speaking to HRT on Thursday, military analyst Igor Tabak said the big wave of refugees was not that hard to predict, warning that we could see thousands of refugees entering the country "indefinitely."

Both Ostojić and Prime Minister Zoran Milanović previously said all refugees would be accepted into the country and allowed to pass toward Western Europe.

So funny how you pull out some fantasy world out of nowhere to justify mistakes being made now, when the actual facts point in different direction: At the Iraq/Syria/Turkey triangle we have most frontal attacks of ISIS. And yet even there conventional weapons prove not to be precise enough to stop them. And failing to hit the right target just makes them stronger.
The situation is far, far different from Goebbels "total war" rhetorics, which allowed a different answer (and even in that case the use of nuclear weapons was a strategical matter more than a tactical one).

The symmetrical war is a some wet dream of "patriots" who failed to see that the world has moved on. There is no glory in simple measures anymore because the other side is prepared for "simple" and can spin the result in a favourable way.

The world of closed borders is gone as well (in fact it was already around the First World War), the economy is globalized and neither europe nor the USA could afford to sit back and watch, as their ecomonies would simply crash.

I know it is exhausting having to actually think when playing with GI Joe puppets is so much more tempting, but in the end you have to deal with the current reality, not with some vague fiction of a distant future.

So it was not Al Qaida? So do you want to go after them and why don't you discuss nuking your own bureaucrats when they are obviously loose on a killing spree through the USA?

And the  is about your ignorance to the facts, which contradict your theory right from the start. The way the USA collectively had no understanding what was going on in the world until someone attacked them on their own soil is just sad, almost as sad as the reaction of still not trying to understand what is going on and instead becoming more and more a totalitarian state, employing measures which are in no way different from those employed by the enemies.

Sharp rise in number of refugees entering Germany

The number of people crossing into Germany has risen sharply, days after the introduction of border controls, with police counting 9,100 "irregular entries" yesterday, up from about 6,000 the previous day.

Impatient refugees walk to Germany from Salzburg

Frustrated and impatient, more than 2,000 refugees stranded at the Salzburg main train station abandoned their plan to reach Germany by rail and walked to the border.

On Tuesday, about 1,200 of the refugees spent the night in emergency quarters in the parking garage of the Salzburg train station. Another 400 preferred to spend the night in a train in the hopes that they would be taken to Germany. All had purchased tickets before service had been stopped.
After waiting for most of the morning for service to resume, Salzburg officials offered to bus them to more suitable quarters. When they realized that they were close to the borders, the refugees decided to walk.

German refugee authority chief resigns

The head of Germany's migration and refugee authority has resigned amid the country's largest refugee crisis since World War II. The German Interior Ministry cited "personal reasons" for the official's resignation.

Earlier this month, Schmidt was criticized by the German opposition party SPD for not responding to applications for asylum quickly and for not expanding his office's capacity to handle the refugee crisis.

The BAMF is said to have more than 250,000 unprocessed asylum applications with the average turnaround time averaging more than five months.

... And the  is about your ignorance to the facts, which contradict your theory right from the start.

Thanks for explaining that. I thought you were laughing at the deaths of thousands of American civilians.

And your comment about 'facts' reminded me of a Talking Heads song:

TALKING HEADS LYRICS
"Crosseyed And Painless"

Lost my shape-Trying to act casual!
Can't stop-I might end up in the hospital
I'm changing my shape-I feel like an accident
They're back!-To explain their experience

Isn't it weird/Looks too obscure to me
Wasting away/And that was their policy

I'm ready to leave-I push the fact in front of me
Facts lost-Facts are never what they seem to be
Nothing there!-No information left of any kind
Lifting my head-Looking for danger signs

There was a line/There was a formula
Sharp as a knife/Facts cut a hole in us
There was a line/There was a forula
Sharp as a knife/Facts cut a hole in us

I'm still waiting...I'm still waiting...I'm still waiting...
I'm still waiting...I'm still waiting...I'm still waiting...
I'm still waiting...I'm still waiting...
The feeling returns/Whenever we close out eyes
Lifting my head/looking around inside

The island of doubt-It's like the taste of medicine
Working by hindsight-Got the message from the oxygen
Making a list-Find the cost of opportunity
Doing it right-Facts are useless in emergencies

The feeling returns/Whenever we close out eyes
Lifting my head/Looking around inside.

Facts are simple and facts are straight
Facts are lazy and facts are late
Facts all come with points of view
Facts don't do what I want them to
Facts just twist the truth around
Facts are living turned inside out
Facts are getting the best of them
Facts are nothing on the face of things
Facts don't stain the furniture
Facts go out and slam the door
Facts are written all over your face
Facts continue to change their shape

I'm still waiting...I'm still waiting...I'm still waiting...
I'm still waiting...I'm still waiting...I'm still waiting...
I'm still waiting...I'm still waiting...
