First of aluminium, these fender grills are of inox sheet metal and bigger from May 1961.
They are assembled only on the DS 19 because the hydraulic fluid is more requested than the one of the ID 19 (assisted steering, hydraulic gearbox and automatic clutch) and it warm more. For the gearbox, the response times are too long. The constructor try to reduce the temperature under the bonnet. Later, with the centrifugal regulator that control the clutch, from August 1960, most of the problems are at last fixed.

From the model 1963 and the new front face, the fender grills are no more necessary.

Too weak the old 3-bearing motor of the DS 19?

L'Auto-Journal in 1964 below this photo of a nice interior full leather DS 19 Pallas :
"Leather cannot replace a modern motor". Then, farer : "Citroën invents the car without motor!"
The constructor will answer one year later with the DS 21.

New DS 21

Front brakes air entrances are enlarged for all the models.
On the speedometer of the DS 21, the constructor adds the breaking distances!
Outside, only the monogram on the trunk door allow to identify a DS 21.

DS 21 in high position.

DS Pallas in front the Atomium in Belgium. DS Pallas exist in 19 or 21 version.

DS Pallas

ID break exist in 19 or 21 version

DS 21 Pallas cabriolet

New 5-bearing motor exist in 2 versions, 1.985 cm3 (DS 19) or 2.175 cm3 (DS 21).
It is not a new motor but only the third version of the old Traction one : Hemispheric cylinder-head in 1955, 5-bearing in 1965. DS 21 first models were indeed more performing but noisy, vibrating and greedy in gas.

ID 19 get the 3-bearing motor of the old DS 19.

Production 1966 : 99.561

DS model 1966 (the drawing of the tilted front wheel is not realistic).

Citroën, Chapron and Panhard stands at the "Porte de Versailles"

Like every year, accompanied by Paul Panhard (on the right), president of the Paris motorshow, the general de Gaulle is visiting the exhibition. They are about to stop at the Chapron stand. Maybe they didn't notice this beautiful cabriolet DS Le Caddy foreground equiped with a dashboard Jaeger, available in the accessories stores.

Jean Panhard, on the left, will succeed his father Paul Panhard (1881 - 1969) as motorshow president in 1967.

The large Panhard stand is the first on the right when we come in by the main enter.

On the pressure of Citroën, the new Panhard owner, the old constructor has to leave 1/3 of his stand to Chapron.
For the first and last time, DS Citroën and DS Chapron are face to face.

After Panhard disappearance, little stands of bodyworkers and constructors move to the building outskirts.
The "French four bigs" have all the central nave.

ID/DS model 67

5-bearing engine for the ID 19 and LHM (green liquid) for all the range ID/DS from November 1966. LHM is a mineral hydraulics liquid close from a motor oil that replace the LHS2, a synthetic hydraulics liquid. Never mix up both!

Secret, the DS new front face will be showed only at Paris motorshow 1967 opening. The poor journalist has to draw as well as possible these famous careened head lights for the annual magazine special motorshow.

DS 21 Pallas cabriolet

We can see the weird motor position that is entering inside the habitacle. The constructor had to make a hole in the body for the access to the fourth spark plug! At the origin, DS was designed for a motor assembled in front and not behind the front wheels. For example, the Lancia Flavia flat-four engine would fit well to the Citroën.

In serie only for Pallas, Prestige and cabriolet models

ID 20 : An idea to answer to Renault 16 and Peugeot 504

ID 20 and DS 20 are two new versions in the middle of the range powered by the same engine.
Yet, there is a difference : To make the ID 20 more nervous then more competitive on its market, the constructor use a final drive shorter 7x34 instead of 8x35 for other models. It is more nervous but more noisy too. For all the range, powers increase while maxi torques sadely remain.

ID 20

DS 20 exist also in Pallas version.

New dashboard with some small push-buttons and wipers control behind the wheel.

Some firmer seats.

To occupy his huge stand, Citroën is creating some cars alignments!
