Rubbish - utter rubbish. It's over 2 hrs long, I think I did very welll to stick it through to 40 mins before switching off. Absolute tosh - it could be even worse than Eternals (yeah that bad) but I would have to sit through more of it to be sure

Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody left me disappointed. In contrast to Bohemian Rhapsody it didn't convey any emotion.

I was expecting more than a jukebox musical movie...

I gave this great movie a second watch and was blown away just as much as the first time I saw it. An astonishing jaw dropping movie, and not just because of it's one-shot technique. The story is pretty much told in "real time" so the you get totally immersed in it. The cinematography is beautiful, the Thomas Newman soundtrack is minimal with nothing for the first 20 mins or so as they crawl through the horrors of no-mans-land or so but all the more powerful for it when it arrives and as for the simply beautiful rendition of I Am A Poor Wayfaring Stranger by Jos Slovick and the all too poignant lyrics about leaving this world of woe to cross over to Jordan and going home to see my mother etc as the camera pans across the faces of the young lads sitting amongst the trees who know they are about to go over the top - and what awaits them.... not a dry eye in the house I guess. As for the performances. well I cannot fault them. The 2 leads are excellent, which is just as well as George MacKay is on-screen for nearly all of the 1hr 59 mins. probably only off screen for 3 to 4 minutes in total.

Sam Mendes has a masterpiece, a really excellent and powerful movie and just like last time images from it will stay with me for the next day or two, and Wayfaring Stranger will be the ear-worm of the week. If you haven't seen 1917 then I strongly recommend that you do.

Just watched Triangle of Sadness, that was 2 and a half hours of my life I will never get back !
Well here's what I posted about it, so I know how you feel

Mmmm, a film satirising the ultra-rich; oligarchs and arms dealers. Well the targets are maybe a bit too easy IMHO. Some critics absolutely loved it, I thought it had it's moments - any time when Harris Dickinson is on screen for instance and the Captains Dinner scene (Woody Harrelson is great as the Captain) a long movie at 2hrs 28mins, and it beagn to feel like it at times.

Where to start? I flipped-flopped as to what movie to watch on Xmas Night. Should I go for an old favourite like "Master & Commander"; Tamsin's "The Fall" or Kevin Smith's "Dogma" or should I try something new like this? Well in the end I went for this and boy what a feckin' movie!!!!!

So after 12 yrs the trio behind "In Bruges" are back together but this is not "In Bruges 2" - no way. There are questions to be answered...

Is the Academy Award for Best Actor going to go to Brendan Gleeson or Colin Farrell and the best supporting actor vice/versa? With a heavy heart I can predict that the Academy Award for Best Picture will be this movie... a heavy heart because until I watched this I thought the excellent "Everything, Everywhwere, All At Once" was the one that would take the crown but this thoroughly delightful joy of a film is gonna win big I think.

Set on an island off the Irish mainland in 1923 it tells the story of Pádraic (Farrell) and Colm (Gleeson). Colm has determined he just doesn't like Pádraic anymore

I really loved this beautiful wonderful movie, the cinematography is incredible but with these beautiful locations how could it not be? A gorgeous soundtrack and a script and cast to die for. Barry Keoghan (who starred in Dunkirk and with Colin Farrell in Killing Of A Sacred Deer) has some of the best lines. The movie takes it's time to tell it's tale ... dark but also laugh out loud funny too. Farrell and Gleeson are just feckin' superb throughout.

(And Jenny is a shoe-in for "Best perfornance by a donkey");)

I watched it some days ago, after reading an article, where Slovenian film critics announced it for the best movie of the year.

They/You're absolutely right! I have nothing to add. Masterpiece!

Five years after his brilliant dark comedy "Three Billboards, Outside Ebbing, Missouri", Martin Mcdonagh directs another brilliant tale, which leaves you in deep thought when it is finished.

Great Slimjim - I love your reviews. We will get this film as well! And once more - so should be a review in this thread, because it is a help for all the other film-fans - and not only writing the title!!!!!

The Lord of The Ants 2022

Based on true events of the late 60s in Italy, poet, playwright and myrmecologist Aldo Braibanti is prosecuted and sentenced to prison for the love he shares with his barely-of-age pupil and friend, Ettore. Amidst a chorus of voices of accusers, supporters, and a largely hypocritical public, a single committed journalist takes on the task of piecing together the truth, between secrecy and desire, facing suspicion and censorship in the process.

(I cannot find a YTube clip without the young member of the cast so no trailer)

The perfect "holiday-who-dunnit". A modern take on the Agatha Christie style country house murder mystery. Lots of fun to watch, and I suspect the ensemble cast, including Daniel Craig; Christopher Plummer; Jamie Lee Curtis; Frank Oz; Michael Shannon; Don Johnson; Toni Collette and Chris Evans had a lot of fun making it. Lots of twists and lies to to keep the plot rolling along.

I want to watch the next one "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" so thought I'd give this a 2nd watch and it was just as fresh and as much fun this time around. Hopefully the new one will be just as good.

So what else was I planning to watch on the last night of the year - my favourite film of the year of course

Still knocked me sideways with it's innovation; humour; homage to cinema; the beautiful soundtrack with several versions of Debussy's Clair De Lune and great cinematography. A manic multiverse movie with an astonishing plot questioning the possible futures depending on which choices are made in life, and at the centre is the bonds within family and especially the bond between mother and daughter. It made me laugh and cry just like before. This being my 4th watch I spotted "easter eggs" and subtle references and was able to marvel at some of the technical brillainces that I had missed before - my only regret is that I can never have the many WTF!!!???? and OMG!!!! moments that you get when watching the first time.

It will be interesting to see how it does at the awards. Best Picture & Best Director? well until I saw The Banshees Of Inisherin I was pretty sure it would - Michelle Yeogh should be up for one as could Ke Huy Quan & Stephanie Hsu and definitely several of the technical awards. We will find out soon enough.

Brilliant film - if you haven't see it you know what to do!

The Adam Project

No trailer due to actor age but here's the synopsis from the i.m.db site

"Adam Reed, age 12 and still grieving his father's sudden death the year before, walks into his garage one night to find a wounded pilot hiding there. This mysterious pilot turns out to be the older version of himself from the future, where time travel is in its infancy. He has risked everything to come back in time on a secret mission. Together they must embark on an adventure into the past to find their father, set things right, and save the world. As the three work together, both young and grown Adam come to terms with the loss of their father and have a chance to heal the wounds that have shaped them. Adding to the challenge of the mission, the two Adams discover that they really don't like each other much, and if they are to save the world, first they need to figure out how to get along."

Ryan Reynolds and Mark Ruffalo star in this entertaining family-feelgood-movie. It's perfect for a cold & raining Sunday afternoon, the story cracks along at a good pace and the script has quite a few laughs and some great wisecracking between the cast e.g. when the younger Adam asks about the future the response is "You've seen Terminator right?, well it's like that on a good day" Back To The Future gets a mention too.
