STREET KINGS (2008)

An undercover cop, disillusioned by the death of his wife, is implicated in the murder of an officer and must struggle to clear himself. Imdb

This has a top-flight cast. Keanu Reeves; Forest Whitaker; Hugh Laurie; Naomie Harris; Jay Mohr & Chris Evans but the movie never really fired for me and I quit early.

GOLDA (2023)

Focuses on the intensely dramatic and high-stakes responsibilities and decisions that Golda Meir, also known as the 'Iron Lady of Israel,' faced during the Yom Kippur War. (IMdB)

This was an amazing film with Helen Mirren at her best as Golda Meir. For everyone who is interested in history it is a MUST SEE!
100 Minutes but over in a flash! Honestly, I'm just in the moment deeply moved. And yes, again I must say VERY RECOMMENDED.

THE ROOSTER (2023)

When the body of his oldest friend is found buried in a shallow grave, Dan, a small-town cop, seeks answers from a volatile Hermit who may have been the last person to see his friend alive. Imdb

I was tired and if I had been in a better frame of mind maybe I would have stuck with this odd Australian film. The 2 main leads are superb, the cinematography likewise. As to the soundtrack well a combination of atmospheric experimantal vocalisations and jazz could be off-putting. The plot and that pacing of the movie? Just a bit too slow and strange.

REZ BALL (2024)

In the heart of Chuska, New Mexico, the Chuska Warriors, a high school basketball team rich in Native American heritage, face their greatest challenge. After the loss of their star player, the team must unite like never before to keep their dreams of a state championship alive. IMDb

Yes I know there are so many movies with the same sport story and every time it will be the same. A looser team will win in the end. But nonetheless we like such films - and yes they are all predictable. But on the other hand they are showing what means friendship and fellowship in a world of carelessness. In my opinion a wonderful, heartfelt film.

Tea With Mussolini, I figured it was a perfect time to watch it with the passing of Maggie Smith and as expected, she was flawless in performance. Plus, not surprise, but Cher was equally fantastic in this movie. It had an all start cast with a very touching, emotional movie.

A QUIET PLACE : DAY ONE (2024)

A young woman named Sam finds herself trapped in New York City during the early stages of an invasion by alien creatures with ultra-sensitive hearing. Imdb

I was expecting a different film, one that covered "day one" showing the arrival, the military response and how people worked out that sound was the key factor and banded together to survive but what we got was some fiery streaks across the sky them the usual plot line - people trying to get from one place to another and being as quiet as possible. Yes some effective jump-scares but overall a disappointment. (and the cat never got dusty - not once)

UNICORNS (2023)

The story of a queer South Asian nightclub performer living a double life, and a young, single father who works as a mechanic. When they meet, a search for identity is sparked. Imdb

A story that has been told before but what carries this are the terrific performances of the 2 leads Ben Hardy as Luke and Jason Patel as Aysha/Ashiq in his first film role.

VAULT (2019)

In 1975, a group of small time criminals attempt to pull off the biggest heist in American history: stealing over $30 million from the Mafia in the smallest state in the union, Rhode Island. (IMDb)

This is again a true-crime story. Really interesting and for me as well the men's-fashion of the 70th  !

COUP! (2023) ... no trailer due to actor age

During the Spanish Flu of 1918, a mischievous cook leads a revolt against his wealthy employer.

A dark comedic satire says the posters. Nice performances from Peter Sarsgaard and Billy Magnussen but ultimately I was bored

CASINO (1995)
This Martin Scorsese film depicts the Janus-like quality of Las Vegas--it has a glittering, glamorous face, as well as a brutal, cruel one. Ace Rothstein and Nicky Santoro, mobsters who move to Las Vegas to make their mark, live and work in this paradoxical world. Seen through their eyes, each as a foil to the other, the details of mob involvement in the casinos of the 1970s and '80s are revealed. Ace is the smooth operator of the Tangiers casino, while Nicky is his boyhood friend and tough strongman, robbing and shaking down the locals. However, they each have a tragic flaw--Ace falls in love with a hustler, Ginger, and Nicky falls into an ever-deepening spiral of drugs and violence. — (IMDb)

178 minutes - and not one minute was wasted time. For us it was one of the very best Mafia films ever. Sometimes you must take a deep breath that you can bear the pics. This film is a masterpiece and is in great parts based after a true story! Oh what I am happy to be only a simple, ordinary citizen. So I think I can grow old over the years - but in these environments you don't have a good chance to grow old! --- If you haven't seen this movie in the past you should do it now at once! VERY RECOMMENDED

HELLBOY: THE CROOKED MAN (2024)

Does this re-boot of the Hellboy franchise star Ron Pearlman like the first two? ... No. And is it written and directed by Guillermo Del Toro like the first two? ... No

Is it any good? ... No

This is the very best review I've ever read. Short, clear, succinct and withering! GREAT! :p

Trouble Original title: Strul 2024

Seen this Swedish movie dubbed in English.
He is divorced and works as a salesman at a major electronics chain and looks forward to every other week when he gets to spend time with his daughter Julia. Suddenly life is turned upside down. Conny is in the wrong place at the wrong time, becomes innocently convicted of murder and ends up in prison. There he meets criminals Norinder and Musse who mistake Conny for being a pilot, the profession of his wife's new successful boyfriend Tomas. Conny becomes a part of the criminals escape plan he will fly the "getaway plane" ...but he also needs to find her daughter a horse for her birthday.
Seen this Swedish movie dubbed in English. It's the funny scenes that keep it going! Especially the scenes of laundry spin wash of the hero!! There are many scenes like hero and the police gal Diana hide themselves behind huge TV, prison scenes are nice watch.
We both enjoyed this movie. I hope to find more dubbed Swedish movies.

THE KILLER'S GAME (2024)

When a hitman is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he decides to take a hit out on himself. But when the very hitmen he hired also target his ex-girlfriend, he must fend off an army of assassin colleagues. Imdb

I was expecting this to be dumb, fun & forgettable and it was mostly. I was too tired really to stick with it last night and at about half way through when they introduced several more sets of villians/hitmen I'd had enough and went to bed. It's from the same studio that brought us John Wick.... and it shows.

Meet Joe Black: I would recommend this movie. I don't like to not finish movies but wish that I would've stopped this one. It was a 3-hour movie that was too slow and felt like it was 4x times as long.
