My mom always knew. I came out to my sister during an argument about her wedding.

So I'm finally back at my parents house for a while, and I haven't
been able to muster the courage to tell them about me
...
BUT I did come out to my brother who just shrugged it off
he makes more gay jokes about me, though. A quick jab to
the ribs makes him shut up.

I'm completely out with everyone else, I'm just too afraid
to come out to my parents ...
Hopefully I will be able to talk to them before
I go back to college.

My coming out was really akward. I was 23 and I was ambushed and cornered by Mom who just blurted out "Are you gay?" I replied "Yes." She came back with "If you get AIDS I'll kill you before the disease has a chance to!" Oh, by the way, my youngest brother had just died 2 weels before of cancer at 18 and his funeral was 2 days prior to the "Ambush". I was unfortunately diagnosed HIV+ 5 years later. I still haven't told her about it and it's been more than 22 years. Otherwise everythings just fine.

I turned 23 today. Not out to family either. Not even out to the best of my friends. All this lie. But I think I'm getting to a point where I just don't care.

I won't turn 23 until October, but I'm literally in the same position as you. Does everyone get our your case all the time about never having a girlfriend?

I haven't came out yet and honestly I am terrified. Its been 8 yrs now and counting. I don't think I will anytime soon. Can't tell my parents because they will be disappointed, no doubt, and they already expressed to me how much they don't approve of the whole gay/bi situation. So, as of right now I am so far deep in the closet, that I can't find the light switch.

I thought that I was fooling everybody, but when I was 16 I found out that I was not. Never came out to anyone. People just knew. My brother and my mother told everybody they came in contact with...

I was 15 and a half in 1978 when I came out to my 2nd oldest sister at the
Walnut Room in Marshall Field's , Chicago . I burst into tears over a
slice of Devil's Food Cake ... She asked me what was wrong so I told her
I was gay . " Aw , you poor thing " , sis said . " We were pretty sure
that you were , and it's okay . "
Damn did I dodge a bullet and I will be forever grateful for
my family's understanding and support !

I'm not "out" yet either... only to close friends. One day, though... and one day soon, I think.

Woo! I just came out to my best friend, who is straight. This is the first time I have ever told anyone in my personal life, so this is a HUGE step for me! I was really worried about how he'd react, but he was totally cool with it! He said he's got my back. I feel SO relieved and now I feel more confident to tell others. I have a few other close friends I need to tell and then my sisters...THEN (dun...dun...dun) my parents!

You guys were totally right! It feels so much better after telling one of your loved ones. Well, maybe this time because he was supportive. He also told me he was bi-curious, but I have a funny feeling he was just saying it to make me feel a bit better about my long-awaited confession.

Oh, and another thing is that there are a LOT more gay/bi people that I thought. My friend and I noticed that as I talked. He said that he's starting to realize that there's just so many people that are slowly coming out. Well, yeah, we're 22, and I think this is a popular age for people who've been closeted to "come out."

Excellent - great to hear it went well, and good luck with the rest of the journey!

Early 20s definitely seems to be the time for it. I started coming out to just close friends at 20, and finally got around to telling my parents at 23, when I met what was then my first serious boyfriend, and is now my partner of more than 7 years!

Still in the closet. Any tips on how to do it? I feel my coming out will really hurt my parents. I don't want to do that, I love them so much
